Newspeak Studio

We were pleased to collaborate with Newspeak Studio on a campaign film for their latest menswear collection, following an invitation from founders Stef Reijnierse and Veronica Perjan.

Newspeak Studio is a research-driven menswear brand rooted in historical exploration. The brand combines pattern-making and construction techniques from various eras and cultures with archetypal details drawn from Western tailoring and workwear traditions dating back to the 1870s. Translating this heritage-informed design philosophy into a visual narrative was central to our approach.

The campaign embraces a vintage, worker-inspired aesthetic, reinforced through carefully selected locations, considered storyboarding, and the use of retro lenses paired with vintage-style color grading.

Filmed across two locations — a retro second-hand store and an art school in Rotterdam — the campaign presents a distinct look in each setting. Transitions between locations are executed through the camera’s viewfinder, creating a seamless visual shift. Despite working with modest resources, the project resulted in a visually strong campaign film that supports Newspeak Studio in presenting their new collection.

The Making Off

Every project begins with a dedicated research and development phase prior to production. During this stage, we immerse ourselves in research, explore the conceptual framework, test visual techniques, and experiment with tools to achieve the strongest possible outcome.

Following initial discussions with the client, we moved into location scouting, focusing on finding environments that aligned with both the character of the collection and the overall visual direction. Once the locations and outfits were finalized, we developed detailed storyboards, considering model movement, lighting conditions, transitions, music, and the rhythm of the edit.

Due to limited resources, the entire campaign was filmed in a single day, requiring an efficient and focused workflow across two locations in different parts of the city. The final phase, post-production, was essential in shaping the film’s atmosphere. Our primary visual objective was to create a retro, film-inspired look that reflects the brand’s aesthetic, achieved through carefully crafted color grading and finishing techniques.
